who is able to sell?

Central to the ethos of Farm Gate Market is that there is no degree of separation between the people who produce the food and the people who consume it.

  1. FOR FRESH PRODUCE, VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS + ASSOCIATED GARDEN PRODUCTS:  only the people who own the business and grow or produce the items for sale are able to sell the goods
  2. FOR FOOD TO CONSUME ON SITE:  the business owner must be on site at all times
  3. CO-OPERATIVES + ASSOCIATIONS:  Fresh produce sold as part of a registered co-operative or association is permitted to be sold at the market.  Written evidence of registration is required to be submitted with the expression of interest form or, if not available at that time, prior to trading at the market

place of origin

  1. FRESH PRODUCE + GARDEN PRODUCTS:  all items for sale must be grown or produced within the geographical boundaries of Tasmania
  2. VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS:  ingredients must have been grown or produced by the value adder or have been supplied directly from growers and producers within the geographical boundaries of Tasmania

Priority is given to those value added products that incorporate a high percentage of Tasmanian ingredients.

Where essential ingredients are sourced outside of the state we recommend that they are sourced primarily within Australia and it is a requirement that the full value added production takes place within the geographical boundaries of Tasmania.

Local ingredients need to be clearly labelled on the item for sale.
