provide Hobart with a thriving food hub where seasonality, provenance and knowledge are the key ingredients and community, the heart beat
that Tasmania becomes recognised globally as a food province in its own right
our four core values
Farm Gate Market is a tourism accredited business with the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program and a member of our regional tourism body, Destination Southern Tasmania
location + operating hours
Farm Gate Market operates every Sunday on Bathurst St (street market) between Murray + Elizabeth Sts from 8.30am – 1.00pm. Rain, hail or shine!
Trade begins with the ringing of the farm bell!
HOBART: The Hobart Central Car Park operated by Hobart City Council will open every Sunday in line with the market. They are running a promotion for the months of September + October and car parking is free on Sundays. After that, parking is a maximum of $4 for a full day on Sunday. Entry is on Melville St and there is a walkway that leads straight into the centre of the market on Bathurst Street
There is plenty of free parking available in the surrounding streets also but for those of you living in the surrounding suburbs why not put the kids in the pram and visit us on foot. What a great way to spend a Sunday!
Both male, female, disabled toilets and a baby change can be found in the Hobart Central Car Park as you enter from the Bathurst St entrance
Buskers are integral part of the atmosphere at Farm Gate Market and we encourage you to come along. If you are interested in busking at the market please email or call organisers to book a day and time
farm gate market + the environment
Farm Gate Market is proud to be plastic shopping bag free. Re-usable Farm Gate Market bags can be purchased at the Farm Gate HQ or at any of the stalls – they range from $2 for for our racy red non-woven bags to $10 for our Big Reds
90% of our waste is either composted or recycled
Farm Gate Market is a smoke free zone
Sadly due to Local Government by-laws we can’t accommodate your dog within the market – this does not apply to guide dogs. However you will find an area at the top of the market, near the LINC library, where you can hitch your pooch while you are shopping and where water bowls are brimming!
